The Heinkel He 115 seaplane was used on the "Eismeer" front by Germany, Norway, Britain and Finland. Mainly a minelaying and general purpose seaplane, it's floats allowed landing on water, ice and snow which made it ideally suited to the area. Four Norwegian He115s escaped during the invasion in April 1940 to be used by the RAF for covert operations. Designed for slow-flying, short-field reconnaissance this plane saw service mainly on the Eastern Front. The sturdy airframe was also agile and the Argus Ar 410 engines coped well with the cold, the unexpected performance spawned ground attack and night fighter variants. A total of 864 planes were made by factories in Germany, Czechoslovakia and France between 1940 and 1944.

Lysanders were used as army cooperation aircraft with the British Expeditionary Force in September 1939 spotting and bombing enemy postions. It's agility, speed and armament were no match for the German fighters and it was only later in the war that it's short take off and landing abilities were used to great effect transporting spies and equipment into enemy territory.
